So I went to Jacksonville this afternoon and evening, and I have had a wonderful time. I was late leaving Statesboro, and I made a sidestop on my way down. I had gone on craigslist to look for a bike that I can use to commute to school and I had contacted a guy outside of Savannah. Well, I met him and looked at his bike that he was selling and subsequently bought the bike on my way down to Jacksonville. I like the bike a lot and am looking forward to using it. So I am driving down to Jacksonville, and I have passed Brunswick, GA. I start seeing all of these like little creeks and rivers that are very coastal looking and for the rest of the trip, I was excited to see that kind of stuff. I got down to Jacksonville (which I think is a very pretty city...I could live here) and met up with my good friend Abbey. She took me to dinner to this local place called
Clark's Fish Camp. It was very tasty little place right on this river/creek. We ate dinner right on the waters edge on a deck and there were aligators swimming in the water. Mind you this place was like 5 min from her house and she lives like 10-15 min from the downtown area of Jacksonville...very cool. The service at the restaurant wasnt very good and the food was slow, so we were a bit late getting to the concert (which was the purpose of me coming down).
Sunbears! was just starting (the band I came to see) and so we got in there and I had an amazing half out of listening to one of my favorite bands. [After getting back to Abbey's house, we found that somebody had videoed the show...here it is online -
Sunbears! Concert] Afterwards, we hung out and talked to the guy in the left of the picture (Jonathan). He was cool. He remembered the show that I saw them play (in a different band, but same guys) outside of Atlanta like 2 or 3 years ago. He was a very down to earth, humble guy. What impressed me with the two of them was that they seem to be playing music because they love to make music and share it with otheres. I bought an EP of theirs and Jonathan told me to make copies and give it to all of my friends. I would say a good number of musicians wouldnt do that, they would want the money. Needless to say, they make cool music and are cool guys. The next band wasnt that good, so we left and worked our way back to her house. We stopped at Sonic and I got a grape creamslush. It was just a good night, especially just talking with Abbey about our lives and we even got into some deep conversation about boys/girls and God. She is a great friend and I am grateful for her. Tomorrow, I may be going a little out of my way again on my way home. I am thinking about going to St. Augustine and checking that out and going to the beach to do a little studying. Not sure what time I will get home, but I may try for around 6pm so that I can possibly go to the GSU game with Ms. Peggy and her kids and/or come back in time to watch the Ohio St/Southern Cal game at 8pm.
